(вариант 5)
I. Сделайте письменный перевод текста:
Description of Weapons
Hedgehogs . Sonar target contact provides fire control information for a hedgehog attack. The motor-type projectiles are fired electrically in a pattern of 24 charges. They must score a direct hit to a submarine to explode.
As roc (Antisubmarine Rocket). Asroc is a surface-to-un- derwater, solid propellant, rocket-thrown torpedo. It is fired from a launcher. It follows an aerial trajectory to the target area and homes in acoustically. A nuclear depth charge payload can be used.
Depth Charges. Depth charges are fired from «К» guns or dropped into the area of enemy submarines. They destroy by the concussion of their underwater explosions and need not make a hit to damage a submarine.
DASH (Drone Antisubmarine Helicopter). This remote controlled helicopter can carry one or two acoustic homing torpedoes to the target area, drop them and return to the mother ship while the torpedoes seek their targets.
Torpedoes. Today’s torpedoes may be fired from a fi xed-tube mount or flung over the side from an open launcher. These acoustic homing torpedoes need not be aimed.
Fi v e - I n c h - Gu n s . The new rapid-fire, fully automatic loading, radar-controlled single mount 5-inch/54 calibre gun (on USS Forest Sherman) roplaces the main battery 5-inch/38 used for salvoes at surface targets, shore bombardment and AA barrage in W W II.
Three- Inch-Guns. The 3-inch/50 is being replaced by the new, longer range 3-inch/70 (twin, dual purpose mounts on
109
USS Norfolk). Twin guns are fired separately or simultaneously with single or continuous fire.
Typhon. A weapon system which incorporates recent improvements in the Tartar and Talos guided missiles is beinginstalled in USS Norton Sound. The new weapon is called Typhon. Super-Talos will be renamed Long Range Typhon. Tartar will be Medium Range Typhon. The Typhon weapon control system consists of advanced long-range search, track and guidance radar, high-speed computers. The system will extend the range and improve the accuracy, target-handling capacity and reaction time of future guided missile ships.
II. Ответьте на следующие вопросы:
1.What is the largest combatant ship in the US Navy?
2.What is the first US nuclear-powered submarine? What
do you know about it?
3.What ships can lay mines?
4.How many airplanes can there be on board an aircraft
carrier?
5.On what ships are AA guns mounted?
6.When or how does a torpedo explode?
