Severe frosts are often accompanied by strong winds that reach 30 meters per second. As in all localities located in the permafrost zone, houses in Dixon are set on stilts. This is done so that the premises do not warm up the ground, otherwise the house may collapse due to the displacement of the foundation. The nearest major localities, Dudinka and Norilsk, are situated about 500 kilometers from Dixon. You can get there only by plane.

In Dixon itself, there is no public transport, mobile Internet, or even a supermarket. Although, not so long ago, Dixon was called "the capital of the Arctic". Dixon has his own coat of arms. It shows a polar bear - "the master of the Arctic". The bear stands on the top of The Earth's North pole, above the constellation Ursa Major. The coat of arms and flag were officially approved on May 6, 2003 as symbols of the Dixon district of the Taimyr (Dolgan-Nenets) Autonomous Okrug. And since 2006, after the municipal reform, they have become symbols of the "urban settlement of Dixon".

Dixon is part of the Taimyr Dolgan-Nenets district of the Krasnoyarsk territory. At the same time, it is much closer to the North pole (1800 kilometers) than to Krasnoyarsk. To reach it, you need to cover a distance of 2,500 kilometers. On February 9, when the polar night ends, Dixon celebrates the day of the Sun, and September 7 is Urban Settlement Day. Dixon is the northernmost locality where fighting took place during World War II.
